Junior High Track
The Miami East Junior High Track Team is coached by head
coach, Paul Dawson, and assistant coaches, Ron and Linda Deaton. Track consists
of the short sprints - 100 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter run and the longer
runs - 800 meter run, and the 1600 mile run. The relays are the only true team
event in track. Relays are split into four sections called legs, with one runner
covering each, then passing a baton to the next runner. We have the 4 x 100
meter relay, 4 x 200 meter relay, and the 4 x 400 meter relay. Track also
includes the field events such as the shot put, discus throw, hurdles, high
jump, long jump, and the pole vault. This track season we have 30 members on the
team and the season started on March 10th.
Unfortunately, we have had to practice during the rainy and cold days of
spring. The top athletes in each event score points for the team and then the
team will get an overall score. The team will compete in eight meets and then
the CBC League meet on May 12th and May 14th for the track season 2004.
